THE BEGINNING
Late in 1996, a group of physicians began discussing the changing health care environment in the Harrisburg area.  On March 1, 1998, the concept of a physician-owned and governed model became a reality with the creation of Heritage Medical Group.  Heritage Medical Group is a multi-specialty physician group created through the merger of 10 independent physician practices comprised of over forty physicians in the area.

WHY HERITAGE?
Heritage was formed to allow physicians to maintain their independent status in the midst of a rapidly-changing health care environment.  In short, we are seeking to do together that which we could not do separately.  Heritage is the physician's alternative in the Harrisburg area.  The size and strength of our primary and specialty care base provides a platform to preserve your autonomy.  In joining Heritage, you become an owner and active participant with a voice in the operations of the Group.  Heritage offers autonomy over patient care while providing for the business and operational needs of our physicians.  Heritage allows you to spend your time where it counts...with your patients.

CENTRALIZED OPERATIONS
Heritage committed the financial resources necessary to form a professional management team: CEO, CFO, COO and Medical Director.  Heritage's Administrative Office is currently located at 3 Walnut Street in Lemoyne, PA.  Management services currently provided to member practices include:
- Accounting and Financial Reporting
- Billing
- Management
- Operations Support
- Accounts Payable and Purchasing
- Human Services
- Marketing
- Payroll and Employee Benefits

PHYSICIAN COMPENSATION
Heritage is organized into Physician Operating Divisions, or PODs.   Physician income is based on the income and expense of each POD.  We chose this method because we felt it provided the proper incentives to members to control costs while maintaining current practice styles and work habits.  In addition to their direct overhead, each POD is charged with their share of overhead from the management office.  Profits from ancillary services are allocated equitably among the Partners.

GOVERNANCE
Heritage is governed by a seven-member Executive Board, which is elected by the Parnters for three-year staggered terms.  Board meetings are open to all Partners and Board minutes are distributred to all Partners.  The Board has delegated daily operating decisions to an Executive Committee comprised of the Board Chairman, Board Vice Chairman, CEO, CFO, COO and Medical Director.  Management staff report to the Board.

HERITAGE TODAY
The physicians of Heritage represent some of the finest and most respected independent practitioners in the Harrisburg area.  Our member practices represent both the primary care givers and specialists, and encompass a geographically diverse area.  Today, Heritage Medical Group has 17 different offices and nearly 80 providers.  Currently, we are located in Cumberland, Dauphin and Perry counties and we continue to grow.
